"Final Chapter" of AAU

This weekend will be our last AAU experience of our lives. It makes me sad. Im really gonna miss it. We travel to Greensboro NC to play in our last showcase. I'm thankful that I got to play at AAU level where I could compete with players from around the nation. This seven year experience has been amazing. I pass the torch on to my little sister Kierstin.

Last Year!

This will be my Final year as a student at Caroline High School.  I hope that I will leave my mark as one of the greatest basketball players that has ever played the game is the school's history.  I'm sort of nervous about it being my Senior year.  Mom always tell me to just start off strong every time I'm doing something new.  Then Dad always says from the next room, "yep!, that's right! I'm motivated to push through this year, and do my thing!    "LET'S GO LADY CAVS!"  :)

A Good Showing

Earlier tonight, my AAU team finished the "Real Deal in the Ville" tournament with a 2-2 record. We started off slow, but finished with a strong showing from all of our players. It was great to see so many coaches watching our games.

CRAZY!!!

Summer is really flying by. Almost everyday since school ended, I have been in the gym in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. To add to this, I have been working hard on my summer AP classes. (AP Govt and English) I am reading Shakesphere's play, "Mid Summer's Night Dream", and "Crime and Punishment", by Fyodor Dostoevsky. My Govt. work is coming from the U.S. Constitution. Quite interesting. I have two assignments due the day after we get back from TN. I'm working hard to complete this before we leave. Well, early next week, we will be on our way to Tennessee to play in the Real Deal in the Ville tournament, (11-13), and Battle in the Boro Tournament, (13-16). WE ARE BLUE STAR SOUTH - Look for Us!

SENIOR!

I am officially a Senior NOW! :)

Today was my last day of my Junior year.  I went to school today to take my last exam and give away all of my goodbye hugs.  It was sad, but being a senior should be exciting.

Over the summer, I will be putting in as much work on the court as possible to prepare myself for my last year playing in high school.  I'm expecting myself not only to get better at basketball, but I will also be hitting the library to read some books, do some studying and prepare for next years classes.   ope the summer doesn't fly by too fast.

USJN Big Apple Tournament in New Jersey

Shannon's Pass To Breezi

At the Big Apple Tournament this weekend, we won 2 of the 4 games we played.  We still have a few things to work on; such as getting our team to mesh.

Next. . . I hope we can get some scrimmages in to help us prepare for Tennessee in July.  I think that more time on the court in games situations will help us improve.  With three new players on the team this season, it's going to be important to recognize who can do what and fill our individual roles well.

Our team also had a great chance to meet Kyrie Irving.  He came to the tournament with my teammates' brother; Josh Hairston and Tyler Thornton.    Of course, we took a picture with this former Duke Blue Devil

USJN Big Apple

After multiple weeks of strong practices, the team is pumped for the big tournament this weekend in, Newark, NJ. We're looking forward to some pretty good competition up north. This tournament will also give our coaches an opportunity to see where we stand before th July Exposure Tournaments.

Reflect and Go Forward

Since the second semester began, classes have gotten tougher.  We got our interim yesterday and my grades were pretty good.  B - Algebra II, B - Spanish III, A - Physics, and A - EMT class.

Tonight my high school basketball team is invited to come to the County's Parks and Recreation Basketball Awards Program.  This is an honor that we have been asked to attend and come onto the stage to help give out awards to the young players and shake their hands.  It's going to be a great feeling when the youngsters walk by and look at us with that "Star Struck", look in their eyes.  We feel important to also be recognize for making it to the Regional Tournament for the 2nd year in a row.

AAU starts soon and I can't wait.  The competition will be tougher than before.  This will be our last year so we're going to go out BIG!

Finishing Up a "Good" Season

How do you measure to see if you had a good season?  District Champion? Regional Finals? Competing at the State Tournament?

I feel like we had a "Good" season.  We finished with a record of 15 - 13.  28 games, including regular season, scrimmages, tournaments, and post season.  This record may not sound too good to many people, but as a team, we really grew and improved on our skills and teamwork.  We had three people from our team to be recognized by other coaches in the District for District Honors.  Jazmen Moore (honorable mention), Rekeisha Heckstall (2nd Team), and I was blessed enough to receive 1st team honors.

Thank you Coach Marshall, and Coach Childs for all of your hard work and dedication to our team and season this year.

My final stats for the year.

FGM/FGA - 82/217
3PTM/3PTA - 37/113
OFF REB - 21
DEF REB - 71
ASST. - 47
STEALS -49
BLOCKS - 36
POINTS/AVERAGE - 357/17

The Ups and Downs of the Game

Recently, I have had some good games and some bad games.  On Monday, February, 13th. I was recongnized for being the first female Junior at Caroline High School to reach the 1,000 points milestone.  I felt that this was my major accomplishment in my high school career.

(here with Coach Tim Marshall (L), and Coach Salita Childs (R)

Unfortunately, the next day we played Courtland and I ended up leaving the game with an injury.  Eventhough we took 2 tough loses against the Cougars and Eastern View Cyclone, we still qualified to go play in the Regional Tounament :)

We will be traveling down to Tabb High School, today, Tuesday, February 21st, for our first round of regionals  I'm hoping Coach Marshall will put me in. . . I'm so ready to get back on the floor!  Wish us Luck!  Let's Go Lady Cavs! :)

A Few Good Wins

Over the past few weeks, we have been back on track with a winning streak by defeating; King George, Culpeper, and Spotsylvania High Schools.  I am hoping we can get a win against Chancellor High School on Friday, January 27th at OUR HOUSE.

This will be a payback game, and we will be ready.  Let's Go Lady Cavs!!!  Looking forward to keeping the wins alive, and ending the season on a better note.  :)

Down But Not Out!

The Battlefield District standings came out this weekend, and we are 6th in our district.  This is very disappointing.  The captains got together before practice on Monday and had a short meeting.  We discussed with the team the goals we had made and the accomplishments we have made and the ones we still need to reach.  Coach Mosby, (dad), pulled out the DVD of our last game and pointed out a few places we need to tighten up on.  WE Had A Great Practice.

Below are my cumulative stats of the first half of the the season:
FGM FGA 3-PTM 3-PTA FTM FTA OFF REB DEF REB Asst. TO Steals Blocks TP #Games
Shannon Mosby FG:52/131, 3Pts: 13/44, Ft: 50/65 Reb: 55, Asst: 32, Steals: 30, Blocks: 20,

Tough Week, but Encouraging Support from My Sting Family

This past week, we struggled as a team to win in the district.  I feel the relationship between the team as a WHOLE and the coaches need to become more "as one" and the performance on the floor will follow. . . . .  All we need is a little pep talk :)

On Wednesday, we played the Chancellor Chargers.
My stats:   FG: 3, 3PT: 1, FT: 1, Reb: 4, Blk: 0, Asst.: 4, Total Points:  10
Our defense was really good that game but they just came out on top.  We got them next time!

My old AAU Coaches; Wendy Jilson, Steve Tkac, and former teammate Allison Tkac, came out to support me which really helped lift my spirit on my brother "Brooklyn's" Bday. (R.I.P.)  Even Coach Wendy's son Ayden came out with his fan signs to cheer for me and my team.  It was so good to see them.  That made my day.
