Back to the Hardwood in 2010

I can't wait to get back on the court next week.  On yesterday we worked hard in practice on breaking the press, toughening up on defense, and outside shooting.

The next game is coming up on Tuesday against our rival, Courtland High School.  Quite a few of Courtland's players are my teammates in the off season, when we play AAU ball with "Spotsylvania Sting".  They are:  Anika Trent, Janae McNeal, Jessica Hariston, Kelsey Teeple, Kristin Brown and Imani Fernell.  Some of them play with the younger "Sting" team.

Even though they are my friends, I will play hard like I do against anyone else.  Whatever happens. . . happens.  When it's all over we'll still be friends.

Big Things Come in Small Packages

We love to pressure teams. This helps build our intensity in the game. Once we're on, WE ARE ON! Our thing is to try to cause the opponent to make as many turnovers as possible and then to score off of their mistakes.

It feels good to be one of the leaders on my team, but I try to stay humble. I thank God for my gift everyday. It's not just me; its my teammates that carry us. Without the TEAM sticking together as a whole unit, it will be very hard for us to win.

"We're ranked #1"

As listed on maxpreps.com; The Caroline Lady Cavaliers are ranked #1 in the Battlefield district.  This is great news.  The last time we were listed this high was probably when my friend and neighbor; Chelsea Woolfolk played for the team.  Around 2005-2006 season.  We are very proud of our progress.  Also on maxpreps.com, I had an opportunity to read the coaches note.  See below:

Christmas Break

12/19/2009
The Lady Cavs head into the Christmas break undefeated in the Battlefield District for the first time in recent years. Freshman guard Shannon Mosby is listed in the MaxPreps top 20 in scoring, and junior forward Emily Ashcraft is listed in the top 20 in blocked shots for players in Virginia.

Let It Snow!

Our game on Wednesday was another success.  We won against King William High School with a score of 69 - 46.  Unfortunately we lost one of our players.  Reiketa Washington a post player, fell and tore her ACL.  She is out for the season.  We will really miss her.
When Reiketa went down, it started a fire in me and I went on to score 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals.  Our next game was postponed due to bad weather.  (SNOW and lots of it!!!)  It would have been against defending co-champion James Monroe High School.  This will be a tough game, against a tough team.  A big step for us!

What a Great Game!

Tonight we met with a tough rival, and our first big challenge in district play.  Chancellor High School.  It was fun playing against some of my AAU friends.  I was extra surprised to see my AAU Coach, Coach Wendy Jilson,  in the stands with her husband, Mr. Dude.   I was glad because I had a great game. We play again tomorrow at King Williams.  I will let you know how things turn out.  See other video clips of this game below.   Don't forget to check out our team result and my stats on the right.

Check out my last second shot of the first half.

Decorating the Tree at Grandmas

Have a Great Christmas

A Big Challenge!

This week we will have a chance to see how good our team is.  We will be playing against Chancellor High and James Monroe High Schools.  Both of them are in our District and both are very good this year.  I am also playing against some of my best friends from my AAU team.  (Spotsy Sting)  Crystal, Heather, and Krystal are on Chancellor's team and Akira and Raven are on JM's team.  Coach Goodson is doing a good job getting us ready for the upcoming games.

Caroline vs King William

Monday's game was amazing. Everybody's head was there and looking forward to a win to cover the scars of our loss against Millbrook High School. Our prayers were answered as we heard the 4th quarter buzzer and looked to the score clock with the score 78-42. I just pray that now we will go out there tomorrow with the same intensity to win against Culpeper High School.

1st Game :`(

We had our first game of the season this past Wednesday against Millbrook High School and ended up losing. The good thing about it is our team learned a valuable lesson about practicing and going hard before games so when we get out there on the floor we'll be pumped up and ready to win. Other than that I think our team did pretty good the second half of the game.

At practice the next day, we worked hard on drills and scrimmaged a little to work on our transition plays. Towards the middle of practice a newspaper reporter from Free Lance Star came in to interview me and ask me questions about the season, the new coach, and how it felt to be the only freshman on varsity. I was nervous but I enjoyed the feeling of my first time being interviewed ;)

The Pressure's On!

Ok everyone, this is the week of our first regular basketball game.  We will have to drive over 2 hours to get to Millbrook High School in Winchester, Virginia.  I am very nervous.
Tonight parents met with the coaches to go over rules, and sign up for days to provide food for our home games.  Coach Goodson told the parents that the team has been working hard, and we should be a good team.  I felt a little embarrassed when Coach told everyone that the team will have a lot of pressure on them, but I am the one who has the most pressure.  She said that I will play point guard.  Which is a pressured position.  Also, I will be a starter at point guard.  More pressure!  But to top it off, she announced that I will be a Freshman starter, playing point guard.  All I could do was smile.
I hope we do well on Wednesday.  Will let you know.

We had a lot of fans. The game went really well and we finished with a score of 76 - 58. I had 14 points in the first half, and finished with 28 points. We travel to Millbrook High school in Winchester, Virginia next week. Will let you know.

"I've Made It"

On November 18th, I was selected as the only freshman to make the Varsity Basketball team this year. What a great feeling! I have been waiting for this for a long time.

We had our 1st scrimmage against Hanover High School, Hanover, Virginia. They were a pretty good team. I had a good game. I scored around 14 points and had several assist. I will find out the full stats later and let you know.

Tomorrow we will scrimmage against another Hanover County School. Patrick Henry High School. I am looking forward to having a good game.
