Let's Go Lady Cavs! :)
I just finished watching some of my film from our past games this year and a little bit of college basketball, (Baylor vs UConn, taped), and now I can't think of anything but our tournament tomorrow at Patrick Henry High School. I want us to do well but also learn something from playing against other competition from other districts.
I'm so hyped right now, I can't even sit down. My parents are laughing at me because I keep screaming and running; saying, "Let's Get It Ladies!", and "We Got Heart", and Let's Go!" I can't wait for tomorrow. WE READY! :) Stats will be posted ASAP

Splitting The Week
We are now in the toughest part of our season, as we play against teams in our league. We finished this week with a win and a lost. Playing against Essex for the second time, allowed us to get some of our bench players an opportunity to play lots of minutes. (50-22). Then James Monroe High came in with the hunger and zest to win, and we were unable to match them. (49 - 71). Our younger players are continuing to get better and we are looking forward to playing Jayem again.
Stats: (Essex)
FG: 3; 3Pts: 1; FT: 3; Reb: 2; Asst.: 1; Steals: 4; Blocks: 1

My old teammate Emily Ashcraft, (Bridgewater College - Player) dropped by to cheer us on against Jayem. Thanks Em! We miss you :(

Week of Play - Dec. 5-9
On Mon, December 5, we defeated Lancaster, (a non-district team). The score was 53-48. I was kinda disappointed because we did not play to our full potential . . . too many mistakes. I was sick that day and felt like I did not play as well as I should have. My stats were:
Pts: 25; FG: 9/15; 3Pt: 0/3; FT: 7/11; Reb. 5; Asst.: 3; Steals: 6; Blocks: 3
Yesterday, 12/8, we defeated Essex, (another non-district game). Score was 52-24. Everyone got plenty of playing time. We succeeded at all of the goals that we set before game time. Everybody contributed in some way. Lots of team hustle. My stats were:
Pts: 16; FG: 5/12; 3Pt: 1/1; FT: 3/5; Reb. 5; Asst.: 2; Steals: 2; Blocks: 1
Next Week we play 3 games. I will be playing against some of my AAU teammates when we take on Courtland (Tuesday), and Spotsylvania (Friday).

"Cavaliers Rock the Cavaliers"
Last night our Caroline Lady Cavs defeated the King William Lady Cavs 68 - 33. Coach Marshall and Coach Childs were proud of us. We got good work from everyone and had four players in double figures. (Tasha Johnson - 13 points, Jazmen Moore - 14 points, Nakia Robinson - 12 points, and I had 22 points)
I am proud of our freshmen and sophomores. Now I know for sure that those long practices are paying off.
Yeah, Let's Go Lady Cavs!!
Here are my stats from last night: FG's - 3/6; 3 pointers - 4/4; Rebs - 5; Asst. - 5; Steals - 3; Block - 1; points: 22

Days Before the Start of the Season
12/1/11
We are down to a couple days left before our season opener against King Williams High School. I am ready to play. I am always ready to get in a good run. It has been several years since we played them, so we need to bring our "A" game.
Today's practice was good and intense. Our young players are continuing to grow.
We had a nice write up in the newspaper today. Check us out below. Scores will be posted on the schedule to the right.

A Time to Say Thank You
Two days away! WE will have our first game of the season vs Patrick Henry. I am so excited right now, I could burst.
As I approach the season, I just want to take the time to thank some of the coaches who helped develop my skills before I realized I had any. Thank you, Coach Percy Ashcraft, Coach Harry Mosby, and Coach Tim Marshall, who were my Parks and Recreation coaches. They told us, (me and a lot of my teammates), back then, that we were going to be a great high school team. We are working to prove them right.
I am also thankful for the addition of Coach Salita Childs. Salita is a previous Caroline High School player, and played college ball at Virginia State. She has been great with working with our post players.

Nine Weeks Report Card/Season Opens
On Monday, my 1st Nine weeks of school ended on a good report. In Advanced English, I received a B+, in Emergency Medical Training I received a B, in Strength & Conditioning I received an A+, and a C+ in USVA history. I wasn't completely satisfied with the C+ but I am striving to do better.
After two weeks of practice, I've seen much improvement throughout the team. This year, we have some young but dedicated post players to work with that are very enthusiastic to learn and our guards love to run the court. Oh yeah, we have this new thing that we say when we start a new drill in practice.."WE LOVE TEAM BONDING". haha! All of us are looking foward to a great season and having fun while we do what we love best. PLAYING BASKETBALL ! <3

Fall Basketball League Ends
We ended our Fall League season this weekend with a record of 3 - 3. Our team was made up of mostly JV players , so I'm not disappointed with how we finished.
We only had 3 players with Varsity experience to play on our team for this league. I think we're going to have a pretty good season this year even though we'll have a lot of young players. Try outs are only one week away.

Won All 4
Blue Chip was fun this past weekend. We won all 4 of our games. We played New Jersey Panthers, New Jersey Hawks, Fencor, and Team SOL.
I played sparingly in Sunday games. My ankle is better but not 100%. Still a little swollen.
Today was a half day of school. Oh, I got my interim and did pretty good. EMT - B; AP English - B; History - A; Conditioning Strength Training - A.
I spent my free time after school, shooting ball. Gotta get ready for high school season.

What In The World?
I've been waiting all week long for this Blue Chip Tournament in Pennsylvania. I worked hard at AAU practice, worked hard at Caroline High School Open Gym, and even worked hard at getting some shots up in my backyard on Friday.
First game of the tournament, I twisted my ankle. " I AM SOOOO MAD!"
We won the first game. I missed game 2 which we also won. I want to play tomorrow sooooooooooooooo BAD! :(
I've been icing, icing and icing. My foot is turning into a block of ice. HEY COACH!, put me in PLEEEEEASE . . . I can do it. Really I can, my ankle is good. Please, Please, Please

Fall League
Out CHS girls will be playing in a fall league at Chancellor High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
I have been working out in class, doing a lot of conditioning and strength training. Been doing some shooting and ball handling in the evening. I'm ready for a new season.
Last Saturday, worked out with my AAU team. We will be playing under the name of Spotsylvania Sting, in a Blue Chip tournament at Villanova University, on October 8th and 9th. I think we had a good practice. Got a couple more practices this week. We will be ready.
I visited a couple of colleges over the past few weeks. It was awesome being on campus and seeing what its like. The mountains were beautiful, the coaches were friendly. I'm starting to get excited about going to college.

First Two Weeks of Junior Year
School is quite different this year. A lot of friends have moved to other schools in other counties. Friends that I have been with since Kindergarten are gone. I miss them :(
Special memories of my friend David, "Brooklyn" Jones, #10 - Baller. It still hurts to think of that Sunday evening when you left us. My first 3 pointer this season will be from your 3 point spot on the court, David, in memory of you. I know you're still ballin' in Heaven, "SON".
Classes are different also. We now have a block schedule. I'm taking AP English, EMT, History and Strength Training. So far, I'm doing pretty good at getting use to this block style.

Off Season Workouts
This AAU season ended on a good note with a 21-7 record. We played in various states where the competition was amazing. I realize now exactly what I need to work on while I'm off season so that when High School season comes around I will be seen as a "deadly" force to be reckoned with.
Lately, I've been going to the gym everyday with a couple of friends to work on my basic skills and conditioning. When High School ball begins, we will see if all this hard work pays off. I will also be taking my SATs in October and I've already began studying. I know this test will is a big part of where I'm going in life so I'm going to do my best. :)

"Humbled"
The competition in "Battle of the Boro", was very tough. I had a feeling it would be. We played some really big, strong, and quick girls. We won 2 games and lost 3. It was humbling. Now we're ready for what's next at Jr. Nationals.
I spent some mornings hours in the gym this week getting in lots of shots before going to practice. We've got to get ready for biz on the court. This weekend is USJN in Washington, DC, and next week is the Elite 32 Summer Jam Tournament in Augusta, Georgia.

On the Verge of the Toughest Part of the Season
As we approach the end of our season with a 15-1 record, we come to our last few tournaments and we prepare ourselves harder than ever. On July 12-15, we will travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to play in the "Battle of the Boro Tournament".
I have a feeling that the competition will be more advanced than any tournament we've been in this season. We will be playing multiple teams from places like Texas, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
Throughout the season, we've played in the south or played in the North. I'm excited about going west to see what the competition is like.

Bonding Process
So far this season, I've been boding pretty well with my new AAU teammates. (Blue Star South) Practices are very challenging and fast pace which has lead to us being very successful in tounament play. Our record is 11-1.
For me, our most exciting victory was a one point win, after a major come back against a 17 yr. old Elite team, at the Peach State Tip Off Tournament, Georgia.
Our next tournament will be the Big Apple Challenge in Newark, New Jersey on May 28th.

A Little Talk (from one who is THERE!)
Last night we had a great practice, not because of what we did at practice, but because of the special guest speakers we heard after practice. Josh Harriston and Tyler Thornton from the Duke Blue Devils dropped by and gave us a few words of encouragement.
Josh's sister, Jessica is one of my teammates, and her dad is one of our coaches. Before going home, they decided to drop by. He spoke about how his hard work and good grades paid off, and urged us to do the same. Tyler came along for the weekend. His advice was to continue to learn the game of basketball because you never know when you are going to get your big break.

"It's A New Season"
Today we played our first scrimmage of the season. We played , Blue Star North, from Maryland. They had a good team, really strong forwards and decent guards.
We played really well together for a first time. It felt really good being able to play a 2 guard, as well as point guard. I'm not sure how many points I had but I know I hit a few 3's. I'm excited about this team. All of my teammates are really good. We have the potential to go far this season.
Here is my AAU teams website: http://www.eteamz.com/spotsysting95/
Below are a few clips from my scrimmage: I am #23.

AAU Ball - A New Start
A couple of new AAU teams has formed in our area, and our Spotsy Sting 17U did not have enough players to form a team. I have joined a new team, "Blue Star".
I'll miss my old teammates. I had played with the Sting since I was 11 years old. Coaches: Wendy Jilson, Steve Tkac, and Al Trent have really pushed me and taught me a lot. I'll miss them and I know that they want the best for me.
My new coach Ramon Hounshell is also a good coach. He's working us hard in our first two practices with lots of conditioning, fundamental drills and a little bit of weight lifting. Our first tournament will be March 26 - 27 in Laurel, Maryland. I can't wait.

Athletic Honors
I am honored to be awarded the MVP for the Lady Cavs for the second year in a row. I also was awarded for my First Team, All Battlefield and Second Team, All-Regional honors.
We had a good year. We finished as regular season runner up in a league of 8 teams. Our regular season & playoff record was 17-8. Much better than last year.

8 Game Winning Streak !
The past few weeks has been really exciting for our Lady Cavs . Our team has come so far since the beginning of the season . During the early and pre-season rankings, our team was ranked 7th our of the 8 teams in the Battlefield District. All of the other teams had counted us as an easy win. No one really believed in us, except for our coaches. Coach Marshall said from day 1, that this is the type of team that could win it all in the District. If we only believed in ourselves.
"BELIEVE" That's the chant we say as we take the floor for each game. Our motto at Caroline High School, is We Believe, We Achieve, We are Caroline! Once we started to play and believe in each other, we started winning. As of Friday night, we won our 8th game in a row. This was not easy, because we had to win against Eastern View High School (ranked 2nd at the time), and James Monroe High School (we lost to them early in the season by 6).
At Eastern View, the coaches had a game play, and we executed it to perfection. At James Monroe, neither team wanted to lose. I have a lot of friends from AAU that play on JM's team, so it was a battle to the end. It took 2 overtimes to come away with the win. I made 3 out of 4 free throws at the end of overtime to seal the game. We have now OFFICIALLY moved into 2nd place, and we are PROUD OF IT!
We are now taking a short break for mid terms. Eastern View will visit us on Friday, and a make up game against King George on Saturday. LEHHGOOO ! :)
